let there be light

Well, here we are. Just you and me, dear reader. I’ve never used wordpress before but I imagine it and I will soon become great friends. Since first meetings usually warrant introductions, allow me to do just that. You can call me Steph, which is my real name, or Aeronwy, which is a Welsh name I picked almost at random. Steph means ‘crown’ and I think that’s rather dull, whereas Aeronwy, on the other hand, means ‘river of carnage’. How cool is that?

Names aside, a bit about me: I’m a thus-far unpublished writer. I’ve written one full novel to date that I’m in the process of editing. I have another novel about two-thirds of the way finished (the first draft, that is), but I’ve stalled out on it. One day I’ll pick up the yarn and continue spinning, I’m sure. The reason I stopped on the second novel is because I decided I wanted to build a resume and have some short stories published first. Sort of like doing push-ups to get in shape, ya know?

Thus far, I haven’t quite managed to have any stories published, but in my most recent rejection letter, the editor asked me to send another story for him to take a look at, because he liked the writing but the story itself wasn’t a good fit for his publication.

So there’s still hope.

Anyways, why have I joined wordpress and started yet another blog-like thing? I intend to use this little corner of the web to build the world around my characters in the novel I intend to write for this year’s NaNoWriMo. (It’s never too early to start planning, right?) I’ll introduce you to those characters in the next post.

For now I’ll leave you with hearty greetings and the hope that you’ll poke around here some in the future.

  1. Aeronwy, love it! This blog should be fun to follow along. Worldbuilding makes me happy. :)
    I definitely hear you as far as having some short stories published first. I should really start focussing on that, too.

  2. You know, I’ve never done this kind of in-depth world building before. (That’s one of the big reasons the one novel I’ve written is still being edited, I might add.) So I’m really excited! :D

    As to short stories–yes, you should. Especially since I’ve now read one of your short stories. ;)
